Sept. 28th - Early Release Dismissal Sept. 30th - Half Day Dismissal @ 12 Spalding We will be learning 30 words this week. Be on the look out for homework coming home each night. Scholars should be practicing their phonograms nightly as well. We will have a Spelling and phonogram test on Friday. Math This week in math students will be working on renaming tens and hundreds. Students will also be working on subtracting ones and tens from a three digit number. Students will also work on number placement when adding and subtracting three digit numbers. Which number goes on top and which number goes on the bottom. They will gain an understanding of how many ones make up a ten and how many tens make up a hundred. Students will also gain an understanding of when to rename and when they do not need to rename. There will be a quiz on Friday. History This week in History students will be learning about the geography of the Americas. Students will learn about West Indies and Central America. Students will also take a look at Brazil and the Amazon River, Bolivia, Peru, Chile, the Andes Mountains, Venezuela, Columbia, and Ecuador. There will be a unit test on Tuesday which will cover information on Canada, Mexico, West Indies, and Central America. Summary expectations are the same for History as they are for history. Literature We will be reading chapters 12 & 13this week. We will continue to see where the siblings journey leads them. There will not be a quiz this week. Students may bring their literature books home as long as they bring them back to class to follow along.

Math This week in math students will be working on renaming ones and tens. They will also continue to work on making ten skill. Students will also be working on how to add more than two numbers i.e.. 27+7+5=__. There will be a quiz on Friday. History This week in History students will be learning about the geography of the Americas. This will include review of the oceans and continents. Students will take a closer look at the different states in North America. Students will also look at the physical features in North and South America. There will be a unit test on Thursday. Summary expectations are the same for History as they are for history. Literature We will be reading chapters 11 this week. We will continue to see where the siblings journey leads them. There will be a quiz over chapters 9-11 on Thursday. Students may bring their literature books home as long as they bring them back to class to follow along. Upcoming Events

There will be a quiz on Thursday. Science This week in Science students are using their taste buds to help determine whether or not a particular food item is salty or sweet. Students will also explore carbohydrates and what they are made up of. Students will get to experiment and taste the different foods on Wednesday. There will be a unit test on FRIDAY. Summary expectations are the same for science as they are for history. Literature We will be reading chapters 9 & 10 this week. We will continue to see where the siblings journey leads them. Scholars should be practicing their phonograms nightly as well. We will have a Spelling and phonogram test on Friday. Math This week in math we will be reviewing mental math skills. They will also be working on word problems and adding two digit numbers. There will be a quiz on Thursday. Science This week in Science students are looking at sweet and sour. Students will be looking at the different properties of acids and bases by conducting classroom experiments. Students can choose to taste the liquids to determine if it is sour or sweet. Students will be observing the color of the liquids and watch them change colors as they combine the liquids with a different base/acid. Summary expectations are the same for science as they are for history. Literature We will be reading chapters 7 & 8 this week. We will continue to see where the siblings journey leads them. There will be a quiz over chapters 5-8 on Thursday. Students may bring their literature books home as long as they bring them back. |
